How did the changing roles of women impact on the war effort in Australia during World War II?
The changing roles of women did not only effect women themselves, but also effected the war effort in Australia during World War II. Increasing the amount of women into the higher roles caused more men to enlist (Carrodus.G, Delany.T, Mcarthur.K, Smith.R, 2012). This was because men were convinced that joining the war would increase their chances of finding a partner. This was good for the government as this helped them employ both men and women. Some of the roles that women performed were; farming, nursing, cooking food and providing clothes for soldiers, being an army recruit, mechanics and joining the Navy air force for women (Carrodus G, Delany T, Mcarthur K, Smith R, 2012).
All of these roles supported soldiers on the home front, therefore without the women doing them, Australian men could not have gone to war. |
